Our developers have been working very hard and we have some exciting new developments that are due to be released on SmartVLE. Please familiarise yourself with these updates.
Allow accounts to be created for different client sites
As a potential candidate may apply to more than one training provider, it has become apparent that we need to allow the same person to be registered with more than one client site.
In order to allow this, we have changed the restriction for the use of the NI number so that the system checks for duplication in the client’s site only, rather than checking the whole of the SmartVLE database.
The other field that must be unique to the user is the username. Previously this was automatically populated using the email address for that user. Now, when you add a new user, you must input a user name for the user you are creating.
The username is not restricted to any format. It must be unique and at least 6 characters long. If the username already exists within SmartVLE, an error message will appear when you try to save the user and you will be able to change the username.
If a user is auto-created by the integration with Smart Assessor, and the username already exists, a number will be added onto the end of the username to allow the account to be used successfully.
The “import users” spreadsheet has an additional field for username to reflect these changes.
Changes to Fill-in-the-Blank Text Type Questions
The browser spell check functionality has been disabled for fill-in-the-blank text type questions.
Changes to Bar Chart Type Questions
When answering a bar chart type question, the participant will now see a hint on how to answer that question type.
An incomplete question prompt will appear if the participant tries to move on from a bar chart question without attempting it at all. As it might be that some of the bars are set to zero, the incomplete question prompt will only appear if the question hasn’t been attempted, if one of the bars have been set, then the participant will be able to move on without getting the incomplete question prompt.
In the next release our developers will be introducing a new question type.
In the past few months we have been reaching out to our clients to nominate a SmartVLE Champion for their site.
